Application and Selection
Apply for a position in our 2013-2014 Delegation!
Are you ambitious, motivated to develop yourself and interested in global affairs? Then apply for our Delegation! The application procedure is aimed at selecting a diverse and balanced group of the best students in the Netherlands. This allows us to guarantee that you will be part of a group of motivated and bright students. We welcome talented applicants from all educational backgrounds. Follow our three steps to a United Netherlands application below!
Please note: Selection for the 2013-2014 delegation has been completed.
Step 1: Who are we looking for?
We seek a group of approximately thirty highly motivated students. A place in the delegation means that you will be part of a select, diverse and ambitious team of young people, eager to develop themselves. Moreover, you will receive intensive trainings, a challenging academic program and will work towards participation in Model United Nations conferences at Oxford and Harvard University. If you fit the following criteria, we look forward to receiving your application!
- Are you a student who combines ambition with ideals?
- Are you motivated to experience personal growth?
- Do you have the motivation and discipline to work hard?
- Are you willing to dedicate 16 hours per week to the program?
- Do you have sufficient command of the English language?
- Do you have affinity with the United Nations and its ideals?
Next to that, there are a number of essential formal Requirements. Please check carefully whether you meet the following formal requirements:
- Are you registered at a Dutch (research) University from September 2013 to February 2014? (Please note that this excludes applied universities (HBO))
- Are you willing and able to pay the Participation Fee and other expenditures?
- Are you available each Friday from the 13th of September, 2013 onwards, the full day?
NB: Candidates for the delegation are not judged primarily on past achievements and/or study results. Rather, you are selected based on motivation, talent and affinity with the aims of the program.
Participation Fee and other expenditures
Participation Fee. If you are accepted to the delegation, we will require that you pay a participation fee of 250 Euros for the program. This fee is your contribution to a highly rewarding program. It is not used to cover any personal costs you should make, such as travel expenses.
Other expenditures. Obviously, travelling to the United Kingdom and the United States of America for two weeks is not for free! Tickets, accommodation and food will cost you approximately 1800 Euros. Expenditures for leisure activities vary from person to person.
Financial aid. Fortunately, there are good possibilities for financial aid. Foremost, many universities have funds available to assist you. Our board can help you find the right body in your university. Of course, you are free to search for any additional sources of financial support. If you start right after you have been selected for our delegation, you will have ample time to acquire funds for the trip.
Step 2: Application procedure
Each year two selection rounds take place.
- Summer Selection
The selection procedure is usually organized in three rounds. You will be asked to send a written application; based on this written form we will invite candidates to the first selection round.
The first selection round consists of locally organized simulation of a United Nations Body in Nijmegen, Maastricht, Utrecht, Delft and Amsterdam. It serves as an initial test of your potential as United Netherlands delegate. If you pass the first round, you are invited to come to Nijmegen and participate in another United Nations simulation, during which a selection committee will be present. Finally, you will be invited for an interview, where we will assess your personal suitability for the program. If you pass this third round, you will be part of the United Netherlands Delegation 2013-2014!
- Fall Selection
For those of you that were unable to participate in the Summer Selection, United Netherlands organizes the Fall Selection in September 2013.
The Fall Selection is organized in two rounds. You will be asked to send in a written application. For the first round you will participate in a simulation of a United Nations Body. It serves as an initial test of your potential as a United Netherlands delegate and to see how strong your strategic, verbal and social skills are. If you pass the first round, you will be invited to the second round. This round consists of an interview, where we will assess your personal suitability for the program. If you pass this round, you will be part of the United Netherlands Delegation 2013-2014!
Step 3: Apply!
The selection procedure for the 2013-2014 delegation has been completed. The selection for the 2014-2015 delegation will commence in May 2014.
